Whatnot's fee structure (July 13, 2026)
| Fee | Rate | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Commission — most categories | 8% | Final sale price only — never shipping or tax |
| Commission — Coins & Money | 4% | Standing reduced rate |
| High-value promo (limited time) | 0% | Portion above $1,500 in eligible categories |
| Payment processing | 2.9% + $0.30 | Everything the buyer pays: item + shipping + tax |
Worked example: a $100 card, $8 buyer-paid shipping, $9 tax. Commission = 8% × $100 =$8.00. Processing = 2.9% × $117 + $0.30 = $3.69. You receive $108 − $11.69 = $96.31 before your own item and packaging costs.
Frequently asked questions
What fees does Whatnot charge sellers in 2026?
Two fees per sale: a 8% commission on the item's final sale price (excluding shipping and tax), and a payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 on the total the buyer pays — including shipping and sales tax. There are no listing fees.
Which categories get reduced Whatnot commission?
Coins & Money (coins, bullion, paper currency) has a standing 4% commission. Separately, a limited-time promotion (effective January 14, 2026, extended in June) charges 0% commission on the portion of a single order above $1,500 in eligible categories — trading cards, sports singles, comics, toys, coins, entertainment cards, bags, and jewelry & watches. The calculator has a toggle for it.
Who pays for shipping on Whatnot?
By default the buyer pays shipping at checkout, and Whatnot generates the USPS label. But note the asymmetry: buyer-paid shipping still incurs the 2.9% processing fee, and if you offer free or discounted shipping, the label cost above what the buyer paid is deducted straight from your earnings — enter it in the seller-covered shipping field.
Why do small Whatnot sales lose so much to fees?
The $0.30 fixed fee hits every transaction. On a $5 sale with $4 shipping and tax, commission plus processing can approach 15–20% of the item price. Bundled checkout helps buyers, but fees are still charged per checkout transaction — factor it into your starting prices for whatnot auctions.
How do giveaways work fee-wise?
Whatnot charges no seller fees on giveaways — but you pay the shipping to send the item. Treat giveaway shipping as a marketing cost per new follower and decide deliberately.
Is this calculator affiliated with Whatnot?
No — Sell After Fees is independent. Rates come from Whatnot's published seller-fee pages (linked below), last verified July 13, 2026. Your exact fees appear in your Whatnot seller dashboard.
